About Canavan Research

Canavan Research Illinois is a nonprofit corporation and 501(c)(3) public charity, that was born out of desperation to save all the children battling Canavan disease. We are an all volunteer organization, and virtually every penny donated goes directly to support life saving research.

Based in Illinois (not a chapter of any other organization) we are devoted to victims of Canavan disease worldwide. Because Canavan disease is rare and receives negligible public funding, we  rely on private donations and grants to support gene therapy, pharmacological, and stem cell research offering new hope to treat and cure Canavan disease.

Because Canavan serves as a model  for other neurological diseases, our advancements can also benefit millions suffering from debilitating neurological diseases such as ALS, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, Multiple Sclerosis, and stroke.

Canavan Research Illinois is exceptionally responsive to the Canavan families, physicians, and researchers that contact this charity. We respond instantly and offer both a toll free telephone number and email contact (see contact us).

We network Canavan families battling this fatal disease, and provide them with a Canavan Quality Of Life Guide at no charge. We raise awareness of Canavan disease, provide information regarding clinical trials and genetic testing, and are dedicated to funding cutting edge medical research to treat and cure Canavan disease.

Our determination to save the children, and the medical research and breakthroughs we support, has garnered national media attention including: Dateline NBC, Leeza, Montel, Chicago Tribune, Philadelphia Inquirer, and The Washington Post as well as a variety of news programs and newspapers worldwide.

Thanks to your help we are making a difference for these precious children who have so few advocates.

Faces of Canavan:

Until recently, there was no hope for a child diagnosed with Canavan disease.
